Ochosi - dance

Ochosi is the Orisha of the hunt, justice, and the forest. His dance is a study in precision and focus — the patient hunter, alert and controlled, moving toward his target.

Dance Character

Where Ogún is powerful and forceful, Ochosi is precise and deliberate:

• Alert, focused energy — the body is always poised, watchful, ready
• Low center of gravity — the dancer moves with stealth; weight is forward and down
• Directional focus — Ochosi always has a target; the body is oriented toward it
• Economy of movement — no wasted motion; every gesture has purpose

Key Movements

• Stalking walk — slow, careful steps; the hunter moves without making sound
• Drawing the bow — the signature movement; one arm extends forward (the bow) while the other pulls back (the string); the body turns and aims
• Releasing the arrow — a sudden forward snap of the pulling arm; the body follows the arrow's direction
• Freezes — the hunter pauses, observes, calculates before moving again

Contrast with Ogún

In ceremony, Ochosi follows Ogún. The contrast is instructive:

• Ogún cuts through everything with raw power
• Ochosi finds the exact path with perfect aim

Both are Warriors (Guerreros), but they represent complementary strategies for overcoming obstacles.
